SO is a place for everyone, to allow them to be supported on their hair journey, no matter what stage they're at.
Working on your own can sometimes be ..... well, lonely! And as a self employed stylist myself I know what that can feel like. This platform is designed to ease those feelings, and give you somewhere to turn for advice, guidance, and inspiration.

My Name is Katie Hawkins and I've been a self employed hair dresser for over 8 years. My Bridal Business, Pretty Please by Katie has provided hair services to over 500 brides and I specialise in wedding hair styling.
Hairdressing is more than just a job, it's a whole way of life and for me it's something I always knew I wanted to do. From my very first Babyliss hair straighteners that I would take to school so I could iron the hair of my classmates every lunchtime, to speaking on stage at Salon International - it's been quite a journey!
For me self employment has meant that not only can I do a job I love, but I can be in total control of what that looks like. It means that I can be my own boss, run my own diary and focus on the things I LOVE to do, without having to sacrifice the things I WANT to do along the way. (Sounds good right?!) There's a reason why hairdressing ranks as one of the happiest professions in the world!
That's why I've created this platform, so that I can get together with other like minded stylists just like you, so we can support one another and help each other along the way. Think of it as your own personal support system, advice line and personal fan club all rolled in to one!

Do I need a computer to access the site?
No not at all. You can sign in at ANY time and on ANY device. It's literally in your pocket, ready whenever you need to access it. You can use it as a quick reference point between clients, or even watch videos while you're on the school run! Whatever your circumstance or situation, this is totally flexible to fit around your own life and commitments, however you wish.
I'm only just starting out - does that matter?
Of course not! We all have to start somewhere and it's important to invest in yourself and your own learning in order to become the best that you can be. Whatever your goal or need is SO Hair's The Thing is designed to help and guide you - wherever your hair journey may take you!
I work in a salon, can I still be here!?
You are more than welcome! The information is tailored to those that are mobile and self employed but even if you're in an employed salon position then there's plenty here that will still apply to you. You can use and reference all of this material and adapt it where needed so that it suits your own purpose.
